OVERVIEW

In Singapore, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) enforces strict regulations to prevent the discharge of silty water into public drains. Construction sites must ensure discharged water does not exceed TSS 50 mg/L to protect the environment and maintain drainage efficiency.

The current ECM setup relies heavily on manual operations, increasing the risk of human error that can lead to silt water discharge, fines/penalties, or project delays. The Auto Silt Stopper reduces these risks by automating monitoring and valve control to improve compliance.

Auto Silt Stopper – ECM Monitoring

Manual ECM operations increase the risk of human error and may result in silt water discharge. This can cause fines, penalties, or project delays, impacting both cost and timelines. Auto Silt Stopper offers a reliable solution by reducing manual intervention and ensuring improved compliance with PUB standards.

  • Risk Manual monitoring + manual valve operation can fail during busy site operations.
  • Control Automated valve control based on live TSS readings.
  • Compliance Supports meeting PUB requirement: TSS ≤ 50 mg/L.

Auto Silt Stopper continuously monitors Total Suspended Solids (TSS). If TSS exceeds 50 mg/L, the system automatically closes the valve within 10 seconds and turns OFF the ECM machines. Once TSS drops below 50 mg/L, the valve reopens and turns ON the ECM machines.

  • Auto Action Close valve + ECM OFF (within 10 seconds) when TSS > 50 mg/L
  • Restore Reopen valve + ECM ON when TSS returns below 50 mg/L
  • Alerts Warning light + sound alarm + mobile notifications when threshold exceeded / sensor offline

Comparison between traditional ECM operations and Auto Silt Stopper automation.

Feature Current System Auto Silt Stopper
Valve Operation Manual valve operation Automatic valve operation based on TSS levels
TSS Monitoring Manual monitoring of TSS levels Automated monitoring with real-time updates
TSS Alert Text SMS 5 to 10 minutes Real-time notifications via mobile app when TSS exceeds 50 mg/L
Re-Treatment Process Manual decision to redirect untreated water Automated re-treatment process once TSS drops below 50 mg/L
Efficiency Requires more labor and supervision Reduces manual supervision and labor, increasing productivity
Alert System None Warning lights and sound alarm triggered
Mobile App Integration No mobile app integration Mobile app for real-time monitoring
Sensor Offline Alerts No alerts for offline sensors Mobile app alerts if the TSS sensor goes offline
Historical Data Access Limited for one month TSS historical data daily/weekly/monthly, up to 3 months
Compliance Risk of non-compliance due to manual operation Ensures consistent compliance with PUB regulations

By automating response actions, Auto Silt Stopper delivers major time and manpower savings, improving operational efficiency.

Item Before Installation (Manual) After Installation (Auto Silt Stopper) Improvement Achieved
Time Spent per Worker 15 minutes 10 seconds Significant time savings
Number of Workers 6 workers 1 worker 83.33% reduction in labor
Man hours per ECM 0.5 manhours 0.00556 man hours 98.89% reduction in man hours
Total Man Hours (3 ECMs) 1.5 manhours 0.0167 man hours 98.89% reduction
Productivity - Increased by 98.89% Operational efficiency achieved
Cost Savings High labor and time costs Minimal labor and time costs Significant cost optimization
Productivity Improvement: 98.89%

The system supports mobile app monitoring for real-time data, historical charts/reports (daily/weekly/monthly), and alarm notifications for threshold exceedance, sensor offline, and sensor fault.

  • Live TSS reading + trend graphs
  • Daily / Weekly / Monthly report export
  • Alarm notifications for high TSS and sensor offline

In addition to mobile monitoring, the platform supports live monitoring on PC/laptop for clearer visibility, faster response, and easy supervision across multiple ECM points.

  • Multi ECM monitoring view
  • Supervision dashboard for management
  • Supports compliance monitoring workflow

Installing the Auto Silt Stopper ensures construction sites comply with PUB’s regulation that TSS does not exceed 50 mg/L, while enhancing operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. It is an essential innovation for maintaining compliance and upholding Singapore’s strict environmental regulations.
